Members of Scatter the Cats first played for dancers in 1990 as The Glenelg Full Moon Country Dance Band.

Inspired by dance caller Bettle Liota's enthusiasm for social dance and firm sense of its potential to strengthen her rural community near Durham, Ontario, those monthly, unamplified, family-friendly events at the Glenelg Township were the foundation. The Grey-Bruce area contra dance community thrives still, largely through the Fiddlefern Country Dancers' monthly Owen Sound events, where house band Scatter the Cats continues making music to move the feet.
